Welcome to The Drinking Man.
This is a website dedicated to the enjoyment of wine. Be it the enjoyment gained from sipping a refreshing glass of Sauvignon Blanc on a sunny terrace, or from storing that special bottle of Saint Emilion Grand Cru in a cellar for 25 years or more.
Wine is part of all our lives (well if you found yourself here I presume it is!) and I believe that you deserve to enjoy your wine to the fullest.
I say ‘your wine’ because I understand that everyone’s wine lives are different. Not just in the fact that say: ‘Margaret only likes dry white wine and Doris likes full bodied reds’. But also because maybe Doris is in a position to crack open bottles of 1982 Chateau Lafite Rothschild* at will and Margaret’s situation is a little more, how shall I say, realistic.
(*Lost? For now just know that it’s a VERY expensive drop).
My aim at The Drinking Man is to cater for all these different situations by writing about all levels of wine. From, what I call, ‘everyday drinkers’ – guzzling wines, if you like – to the very highest calibre wines and everything else in between.
Only you know what your budget allows you to spend on wine. That’s not to say I won’t be encouraging you to spend a little extra – but more on that later.
However, The Drinking Man is not simply a wine recommendation site. It is a place where I aim to provide valuable information to help you get the most out of your wine. Discussing everything from selection, to collecting, and of course the best bit, drinking.
If there’s one thing the wine industry seems to excel at, it’s inaccessibility – an issue that many of the world’s top marketers are frantically trying to resolve. In the meantime, I hope to help map out this minefield of wine, and show you how a little knowhow can take you a long way. Pretty soon, I hope it will be you who are making the recommendations.
For the seasoned wine drinker – and I know there are a lot of us out there – I hope you will also find much of interest here at The Drinking Man. Be it resources or ideas that you may not have previously considered, or the many features exploring the wonderful world of wine, or my personal wine blog where I will be recalling all my adventures in winederland.
Of course, no man is an island and I welcome all of your comments and correspondence. You can leave comments on all posts and articles at The Drinking Man, or get in touch with me directly. After all, wine is best enjoyed in good company.
So, why am I doing this?
Quite simply, because I love wine.
I love exploring it, I love collecting it, I love talking about it, and above all I love drinking it. And I believe everyone deserves to drink better wine.
